REIMAGINING OUR COMMUNITY, TOGETHER

Adaptive Reuse Feasibility Study

Phase 1

Assemblymember Stefani L. Zinerman obtained a $125,000 grant award from the state to initiate analysis of the 13th Regiment Armory located at 357 Marcus Garvey Blvd., Brooklyn, New York in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The goal is to determine what possibilities are available as the community imagines how to better utilize the space.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

Armory Use Concepts

As part of this important phase, we are seeking your input to gain deeper insights into each proposed concept and assess the effectiveness of our community engagement efforts, including meetings and outreach. Your feedback will be crucial in shaping the future of this redevelopment, ensuring that it reflects the needs and priorities of the community.

  • Community Production

A platform that provides Bedford-Stuyvesant’s creative community with opportunities to produce and showcase their work, build skills, and monetize their craft. This concept also emphasizes storytelling, cultural education, and inspiration.

  • Circular Economy

An interconnected economic ecosystem that fosters sustainable, local supply chains—supporting new business development, boosting legacy enterprises, and drawing on industry-specific expertise for community-wide benefit.

  • Wellness Center

A facility designed to promote holistic health—physical, mental, and emotional—through all stages of life. This concept includes affordable medical care, recreational programming, and a broad range of wellness services.

Who Is On The Team?

Assemblymember Stefani L. Zinerman collaborated with the late Professor John Flateau, PhD, Paul T. Williams, Jr., a team of experts, and an advisory committee to complete Phase 1. As the project moves to the next stage, AM Zinerman has formed the Marcus Garvey Armory Community Advisory Council to lead the effort.

Share Your Opinion

As our team continues to conduct research, understand the possibilities and opportunities available to us, we want to hear from you, our community. Your opinion matters. The New Marcus Garvey Armory is a large, underutilized space. Help us decide what it will become.

Will it be an indoor recreation facility? What about a space for commerce? Imagine what you want to see next in your neighborhood.

Support for the Marcus Armory Project

We are honored to have the support of Dr. Patricia Ramsey, President of Medgar Evers College.

“On behalf of Medgar Evers College, City University of New York, I am writing to express our strong support for the redevelopment of the Marcus Garvey Armory that currently sits on 2.62 acres of land in the heart of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community. As a college birthed out of the Black community of Central Brooklyn, we are deeply rooted in the community and committed to advancing educational opportunities and community development.”
